New digital mammography unit for Horizon’s Upper River Valley Hospital

(WATERVILLE) Thursday, June 27 - The new digital mammography unit at Horizon's Upper River Valley Hospital honours the legacy of I. Rosemary McCain.

The Rosemary McCain Memorial Mammography Unit was officially opened in a special naming ceremony that took place at Horizon's Upper River Valley Hospital.

Karen McGrath, president and CEO of Horizon Health Network, said this new, state-of-the-art unit is a huge investment in the future of women's health in Carleton County.

"The Rosemary McCain Memorial Mammography Unit will improve access to mammography and increase the early detection of breast cancer," said McGrath. "Rosemary McCain was a career nurse, who cared deeply about her community and her legacy will see more women beat breast cancer."

The McCain Family wanted to honour their late mother, who spent part of her career as a registered nurse at the former Northern Carleton Memorial Hospital in Bath.

Andrew McCain, chairman of the board of McCain Foods Group Inc., said that his family decided to dedicate the Mammography Unit to his mother because they believe that is truly what she would have wanted.

"Supporting the community, improving care, and giving back to patients and families are all things that Rosemary McCain valued deeply," McCain said. "Donating this equipment to the hospital and dedicating the unit in our mother's name is a meaningful way to ensure that her passion for our community lives on."
