Maritime SPOR SUPPORT Unit (MSSU)
The Maritime SPOR SUPPORT Unit
(MSSU) is one of several research support units across
Canada, supporting patient-oriented research under Canadian
Institutes for Health Research's (CIHR) Strategy for
Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR). A multidisciplinary
collaboration of government policy-makers, health authority
decision-makers, and healthcare researchers in Nova Scotia, New
Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island, the MSSU builds upon existing
research capacity to provide additional expertise in
patient-oriented research, training, and access to linked
administrative health data. Through this support, the goal is to
improve the quality, accessibility and accountability of healthcare
by provided evidence for policy and clinical decision-making.
Available through the MSSU is linking clinical data to secure, anonymized administrative data (such as Vital Statistics or CIHI's Hospital Discharge Abstracts), at the New Brunswick Institute for Research, Data and Training (NB-IRDT), located at UNB Fredericton and Saint John, as well as l'Université de Moncton.
